Summertime Hair Extension Care

Wearing hair extensions in the summer sounds intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! With these latest tips and tricks, you will have a great summer while also being mindful about keeping your hair extensions in great condition.

We can’t avoid sunscreen, but your extensions can! Keep oils and lotions away from your extensions. Dry your hands thoroughly after applying to remove any residue and minimize touching your hair (especially at the roots!)

We recommend avoiding the ingredient Avobenzone in suncreens. Avobenzone can affect the color of your hair and cannot be removed. Protect your investment!

If you can avoid soaking your extensions in chlorinated water, that is always the safest measure! But, you can take precautions by wetting the hair with non-chlorinated water first and then applying a conditioning product all over the hair to form a protective layer against the chlorine. Then, style your hair into your favorite protective style and wear a cute cap to protect your scalp from sunburn!

It’s helpful to keep a mini brush on you to be able to regularly brush your extensions in the summertime. This will help to maintain the integrity of the hair and can be super handy on a windy beach day! Always make sure to start from the ends and work your way up to avoid pulling at the root. We recommend the brand WetBrush to detangle, but feel free to use your favorite extension care brush!

Protect your extensions, color and scalp by practicing protective hairstyles. Braids, loose buns, and hats are your bff!
